Lace Skirt and Basic Tee

It was a black on black kind of work day last week.  I work in a pretty laid back office, coupled with the fact that I live in Southern California, means I can get away with a more casual look in the office. I got this black lace skirt on super sale.  If I'm going to wear a lace piece, I like to temper it with something more relaxed, so I went for a basic black tee.  I'm a big fan of lace in general, there's so much attention to detail.  This skirt will definitely be on repeat this summer but I can't wait to wear it with tights and booties come fall!  Until then though I'm living in these basic ankle strap heels from Ann Taylor.  So simple and chic and super comfortable.  I pair them with denim, dresses, skirts... you name it.  As always, thanks for reading, hope you're having a super day!

Rainy Day in the Spanish Art Village

It rained like cats and dogs in San Diego last weekend.  I don't remember it pouring rain like this last year, but it was a great thing, California really needs it.  Since we hardly have rainy days we took full advantage of being indoors in one of the many museums within Balboa park.  I headed out with Fiona to visit the San Diego History Museum which currently has the Igenious! The World of Dr. Seuss exhibit on display.  It's magical if you haven't been.
On our way we passed through the Spanish Art Village, which is a community of working studios and galleries, full of local, independent painters, sculptors, jewelry makers... all things creative.  It's one of my favorite spots within Balboa park. There's so much color inspiration everywhere you look. Seeing the art village in the rain was even more beautiful, more vibrant and we basically had it all to ourselves.  A fantastic way to spend the rainy day.

Ripped Denim

This is a look from a few days ago.  I met up with some girlfriends for a concert at Birch Aquarium to see the Bad Suns.  They're an LA based band, so good, we may even be considered groupies since we've seen them three times in the past 9 months!  Ripped/distressed jeans are all over the place right now.  I think I'm most comfortable with sticking with rips in just the knees for now.  I picked up this black pair at Gap earlier in the year.  They came a tad distressed and I just recently got up the nerve to make the rips a bit bigger on my own.  I'm loving the trend right now.  What are your thoughts on the trend?

Thanks for reading and I hope you are having a super weekend!

Family day in La Jolla Cove

Photo cred: My 3 year old!

Some of sort of crocodile or dinosaur in hand is a must.

It's a strange thing, I always forget how unbelievably beautiful La Jolla Cove is.  If you're a local San Diegan, you may know what I'm referring to, you exit off the 5 and drop down into La Jolla Village and the view is just spectacular.  I'm relishing in weekend family time. My 5 year old will start kindergarten this fall and I'm anticipating being busy come weekends, but I have no idea really. Until then, we're maxing out our beach days.  We recently were in La Jolla Cove, not a planned trip, but when you leave the Birch aquarium and decide to take the scenic route home, there is just no way that you can not pull over. The water is so stunning, perfect shades of turquoise that come crashing into the rocks.
I was wearing the softest tunic that day.  It's from Cloth and Stone and so easy to wear.
What's your favorite beach spot?  As always, thanks for reading.

LWD Little white dress

I recently picked up this LWD from Ann Taylor LOFT for... wait for it... $19!  Such a score.
There's a palm print lace overlay which I'm really loving.  I wore this for work but this dress easily transitions to night.  I was feeling like I wanted a little contrast so I went with black strappy heels to keep the look from being too monochrome. Though I do love a good head to toe neutral look.

Happy Thursday and thanks for reading.

Red, White and Blue

The 4th of July is probably my favorite holiday of the year.  It doesn't take much prep, throw on some red, white and blue, pack a cooler and you're ready to go.  We've been celebrating with friends at a local park for the past three years, there's a kids' parade, live music and bbq competition, what else could you ask for?  I kept it simple in denim shorts and surprise...!! a flowy, embroidered top with my summer go to sandals.  How was your 4th of July?  Hopefully fantastic!
